Sustainability in Developing Cities: A Study of Jakarta Only recently, with the increased practice of globalization and thus the globalized city, have population and city sustainability become issues of global concern. How the issues regarding city sustainability are addressed and the correct action taken to solve these problems have a direct impact on the lives of those living in urban environments. In 2007, it was announced that for the first time in human history half of the 6.6 billion people living on the planet now reside in cities.
